How would my family get started in the Family Support Services program?

Initial contact for referral/services needs to start with Southeast Human Service Center.  After referral, each child will be assigned a DDPM (Developmental Disabilities Program Manager).  The DDPM will meet with the family to discuss all services and supports available.  Families then will make a decision from which  provider they prefer to receive services .

What assistance and support could I expect to receive from a Family Support Services caregiver?

Caregivers support children in areas such as independent living skills (for example, cooking, personal hygiene, care of clothing, etc),  safety skills (for example, pedestrian, stranger, home safety, etc), behavioral challenges and much more.

How many hours would my child/family receive per month?

Upon entry to services, an individual contract will be written by the DDPM with input from the family and provider organization.  This contract is based upon the needs of the family and what services are anticipated to be given.   The contract is usually written for three to six month period; after this time, the contract can be re-negotiated.

What training do staff have?

Each staff person is CPR certified and First Aid certified.  Additional training includes seizure education, dual diagnosis education, behavioral challenges education and much more.  Training specific to a child is the responsibility of the family.  In addition to training, background checks and reference checks are completed prior to hiring.  Drug testing is completed prior to hiring and at random intervals throughout the year.
